Machu Picchu is undoubtedly an absolute highlight during your visit to Peru. A visit to this special Inca fortress cannot be lacking in your travel schedule. It is possible to make an one day excursion, where you visit Machu Picchu by train from Cuzco. If you prefer you can stay the night in Aguas Calientes that is situated on the foothills of Machu Picchu.
Description daily visit to Machu Picchu Peru
We travel by train to the village of Aguas Calientes, on the bank of the Urubamba river. Aguas Calientes is a cozy town situated in a tropical valley, near Machu Picchu.
From Aguas Calientes we take a local bus to the fortress of Machu Picchu. We start our visit with a two or three hour guided tour. This tour shows you the most important locations of the archeologic complex of Machu Picchu. The guide also explains you the importance of Machu Picchu as astronomic and religious center. The rest of the time we spend at these unique ruins. You have the opportunity to climb the mountain of Wayna Picchu which gives you an excellent view of Machu Picchu. You also can visit the temple of the moon.
In the afternoon we meet again in Aguas Calientes where we take the train back to Cuzco.

From 06:30 in the morning there are busses to Machu Picchu, climbing for about 20 minutes over a sandy road. It is also possible to walk to Machu Picchu, but it will take you a lot longer to arrive at Machu Picchu. Daily visitors from Cuzco arrive at 10:30, so you have enough time to spend in Machu Picchu, before the huge amount of visitors arrive.
You can catch the local bus back to Aguas Calientes and return by train to Cuzco at 15.30, where you arrive at approximately 19:30 hrs.
