Everyone who visits Peru comes inevitably to Cuzco, one of the most fascinating cities in the world. The city was founded in 1100 AD. According to the local Inca myth, the sun was sending his son, Manco Capac, and the moon her daugther, Mama Occlo, in order to extend the culture. They rose up from the Titicaca lake and began their journey, searching for the place where to found their empire. When they arrived at the location of the present Cuzco, Manco Capac put his golden staff into the ground in order to see how fertile it was. The staff pressed deeply into the earth. This was the moment they were waiting for! They called this place Cuzco, meaning "umbical point of the world".
